Item Details
Description
The following treasure is from the living estate of Ailene & Buddy Ford; noted dealers and lifelong collectors of exceptional antique & vintage heirlooms. Offered in this lot 2 toy / saleman's sample Stoves , circa early 1900's , On the right the Blue Bird die cast metal & pressed tin child's stove. This style stove came in a few different size configurations and color schemes. This is the small sized model at about 4" across the front. They date from the 1920's or so. The maker, Grey Casting from PA, is still in business making cast iron toys and other pieces. These stoves are typically found with significant paint and rust issues. This particular item is in excellent condition compared with others that I have found online. On the left a salesman's sample 1930's salesman's sample cast iron, Eagle Stove ***** Plus 5 child's cookware pieces. ***** Total Weight: 3# - Measurements: Blue Bird 4 x 3.25 x 6 tall, Eagle 6 x 3 x 5.5 tall ***** Antique toy stoves, like many other types of toys, are becoming more difficult to find. Many different iron and nickel-plated stoves were made in the early 1900s. If you find a stove that is accurate in all details with doors that open, pots that fit and a carrying case, it may be a salesman's sample. Many collectors believe all of the stoves were made as toys. If the stove is very small, made of light metal, named something childish like "Little Willie" or "Midget," and has tiny pots and pans, it is a toy. Many of the small stoves were exact copies of large, kitchen-size stoves. They may have been given to customers who bought the big stove. We have seen old ads that picture a mother and daughter using their stoves. Car dealers often used this style of promotion.
