Description
The following treasure is from the living estate of Ailene & Buddy Ford; noted dealers and lifelong collectors of exceptional antique & vintage heirlooms. Presented here the classic 1940's Hull Little Red Riding Hood Rare Dresser Box, accented with the classic poppies, daisies and violets design. Some call this a grease jar but the grease jar had the Big Bad Wolf on it , this was a Dresser Box, currently at Replacements for 899 dollars. This is the an excellent example, colors are crisp and mold is well formed by Hull Pottery *** Weight: 2# - Measurements: 5.5 x 9 tall ****** HULL & LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD ***** Americans fell in love with Little Red Riding Hood kitchenware through the 1940’s and ’50s. Railroads shipped boxcars full to stores like Woolworth’s and Kresge’s. Louise Bauer came up with the design, patented by Hull Pottery of Crooksville, Ohio, in 1943. From there, the story gets complicated. The specifics of the design change—an open or closed basket, and the number, type and placement of flowers can affect the value. The details of production change as well! Hull manufactured blanks and sent them to Royal China and Novelty Co. in Chicago, a division of Regal China Corporation, for decoration. Royal returned them to Hull for distribution, but also produced a few cookie jars, and many of the smaller pieces. That’s why similar-looking pieces may bear different marks. The decorations on the many pieces varied as much as the pieces themselves. Poppy flowers were favorites, poinsettias, or sprays of several different flower bunches. Gold adorns most of the line, but not in a garish fashion, just a touch here and there. You will rarely find one in better than this one.
