RARE JACKSONIAN PROCLAMATION - Dec 10, 1832 Nullification Proclamation Broadside printed on silk, issued by President Andrew Jackson to the people of South Carolina, in response to the Sept 1832 State Law against recognition of Federal tariffs, stating Nullification is incompatible with the existence of the Union. Actually written by Edward Livingstone, as Secretary of State, both of their names appear at the bottom. Printed in eight columns with a Greek key border, at the Office of the Boston Statesman, by True and Greene. Streeter III:1738; Sabin 35352: "A few copies were printed on satin, with ornamental border." 25 3/4" x 19", folded, minor stains. A scarce silk broadside in very good condition.
