Description
English, 18th Century. Japanned looking glass in the Queen Anne style (ca. 1720-1750), the cyma-curved wood frame exhibiting the lacquer technique known as japanning, decorated with chinoiserie bird and foliate painted motifs. Wire attached to hardware mounts at back for hanging. Approximate height 38.25", width 18", depth 1". Provenance: From the Estate of Henry G. Muecke Jr., Atlanta, Georgia.
Condition
Appears to be a 20th century replacement mirror. Shrinkage at top of crest where wood is joined and missing piece of veneer at top right (see image #1). There is a repair to upper right side (see image #3). There is small wood loss to the right side bottom. Scattered chips and scratches (see image #5) primarily along the edge. Painted motifs have faded slightly with patina. Wear is commensurate with age and usage.
