English, late 19th century. Black japanned and gilt bureau desk or secretary in the Georgian taste, having figural and floral chinoiserie decoration, a broken pediment centered on urn finial, double glazed doors, candleslides, the lower case with front front writing surface, fitted interior, three drawers, and rising on bracket feet. One lock stamped "VR" with a crown above remainder "Secure/4/Lever", otherwise unmarked. Approx. h. 93.5", w. 39", d. 55".

Scattered losses; some drawers swelled; replacement brasses; keys are not present; case is structurally sound.
