Description
Bill Tarr (American (New York/ Florida), 1925-2006) "Pebbled Cube" - c.1960s, cast and welded bronze, signed lower left of one side "W. Tarr". A very heavy and highly textured Brutalist cube form sculpture composed of small bronze sheets of varying size cast with textured dots to surface in rows, the sheets welded together in a patchwork form to all six sides of cube with some overlapping and some leaving gaps, the whole with scattered traces of red and green patination and oxidation. Approximately 12" square. Museum and corporate collections: The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; The Art Institute of Chicago, Illinois. Museum exhibitions: The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, 1962, 1968. Permanent installations: "Gates of the Six Million" (aka "Gates of Hell") - 1993, The Holocaust Memorial Museum, Washington, D.C.; Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial - 1973, New York; "The Spirit of Sarasota", Sarasota County Administration Center, Florida; Steel Door Sculpture, 102 Greene Street, New York; Untitled Cor-Ten steel sculpture - 1972, Segundo Ruiz Belvis Community Care Center, East 142nd Street, New York City.
Condition
One side with small "15" written in black sharpie--may be able to be removed. Patina for the most part very even with scattered oxidation--one side of block with more severe verdi gras oxidation throughout. No dents, repairs, or losses. No signs of further damage, loss or repair.
