8vo small, mm. 160x110; Contemporary full vellum binding made with sheet of a 15th century manuscript; pp. [32], 530 [i.e. 520], [14]. Printer's mark at the titlepage. Under the Colophon, written with date ‘1546 die 10 Aprilis’: “Jo. Baptistae Pisani et Amicorum”.
Important work of the great Italian doctor, in the edition by John Argenterio. In this opera, Brasavola brought to fruition years of research passed to fill a very rich herbarium, starting from the lists of plants of ancient authors but only to extend them and fix them on the basis of its investigations: descrove in this work, among other things, the roots the china. As well as all the pharmacological substances of plant origin, the Examen talks also about metals, stones, gems, salts, animal fats, mineral oils. Thanks to his extensive botanical knowledge, Brasavola was one of the first to use the guaiac wood or saint to cure syphilis, disease, describing the three species and five different forms.
