Two French Portraits of Napoleon, including a glass sulphide profile portrait, ca. 1825, possibly Baccarat, the octagonal sulphide depicting Napoleon in profile, wearing a laurel wreath crown, in a gilt-brass bezel on a fabric ground and framed in an early 19th-century giltwood frame decorated with molded acanthus leaves, h. 9", w. 8-1/4", d. 2-3/4", and a miniature portrait, ca. 1900, depicting Napoleon with downcast eyes, signed "Delaroche", h. 5-1/2", w. 4-3/4".
Condition
Both examples are in overall good condition. Glass sulphide portrait: There are light surface scratches to the glass. Minor nicks and repairs to the molding edges on the frame. Shrinkage crack to all miters. Miniature portrait: Signed "Delaroche". Age cracks to the ivory frame. Small loss to the cavetto (inside wall) of the frame.
