Description
Continental School (Fourth Quarter 18th Century), suite of four oils on canvas of "Bucolic Rural Scenes", each 24-3/4" x 24-3/4". Framed alike.
Condition
Scattered accretions, craquelure and pinprick losses. Slight stretcher marks. Stairs with Archway and Tree - Loss of paint to upper left 1/2" diameter. Evidence of past restoration: Two patches en verso to corresponding old repairs. Brick Mill with Mountains - Slight stretcher marks appear at middle of canvas. Evidence of past restoration: Canvas appears to have been relined. Water Scene - Evidence of past restoration: Appears to have inpainting repairs to sky, possibly corresponding to the four en verso patches. Waterfall Fisherman - Evidence of past restoration: Appears to have inpainting repairs; possibly canvas relined. Not examined under UV light.
