Description
An Amarna period limestone head of a princess, New Kingdom, Amarna Period, reign of Akhenaten, c. 1353/1 - 1336/4 BC, with beautifully rendered features and elongated head, characteristic of the royal sculpture during this period. A small support plinth at the back of the neck. The head is extremely well-preserved with remnants of skin tone and black cosmetic details. This example is very close in style and fabric to the example in Berlin (AM 14113), who is thought to be the juvenile Ankhesenamen, who married Tutankhamen. Head itself measures 5 ½ in x 4 ½ in x 3 ½ in (13.9 x 11.4 x 8.9 cm) and is mounted on an antique wood base. A most remarkable piece with close resemblance to other heads from the royal workshops at Amarna. Ex German private collection, collected in the 1930's then ex CT collection
