Description
One-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to the Remmey Pottery, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1865, ovoid form with footed base, tooled collar, and applied handle, decorated on the front with an elaborate triple tulip design. Collar decorated with three leaves and a flower blossom. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. The use of three tulips on the front of this pitcher (as opposed to the usual two) is an unusual and desirable treatment for this family of potters. Large area of restoration to spout, extending to left side of rim. Three base chips, one of which appears to be in-the-firing. Thin 2 1/2" crack at base on front, continuing 2 1/2" onto underside.
