Description
German artist Max Michler painted this view of Starnberger Lake in 1946. In it, he captured the essence of our experience at many lakes, including ones in New England. The painting is done on a wooden panel, and the grain of the wood textures the paint. It may be more pronounced now than it was originally, but seems to be stable and really does add to the charm and old qualities of the painting. On the back, there is a variety of info from the artist, and from someone who gifted the painting to a relative. The German inscriptions have been translated to English, and can be seen in a photo of the back of the painting. The painting was gently cleaned and coated with a non-yellowing varnish to protect it. It is installed in a newer frame, with damage to the lower right-hand corner (see photo.) You may want to re-frame, or just enjoy the view as-is!
