Description
This oil painting of a lake near Munich was painted by German artist Curt Ruger (1867-1930) and probably dates from around 1910. It is painted on canvas which was mounted to a board prior to being painted on, which is a method sometimes used by artists who intend to paint outdoors. (The boards are easier to carry than a stretched canvas and do not let light come in from behind while being painted on.) Curt Ruger worked as an illustrator and designer, and also produced many fine art canvases. This plein air sketch is loose and impressionistic, and has a simple strength of composition and restrained use of color. It is signed on the front, and twice on the back, which can be seen through a window cut in the new protective backing-board. The canvas has been cleaned and freshly varnished. It measures 14.25"x17.75", and the new gold frame is 16.25"x19.75". Item ID: COL-2 Fixed Price Shipping & Insurance on this item =$32.00
