Description
Mid Atlantic States, 19th century. with lead and manganese glaze, exaggerated form and feature on a bulbous jug. This example is a recent discovery and now the fifth known face jug attributed to this particular school. Others have been discovered bearing Masonic symbols, along with the date 1844 on another example. While it is unclear precisely what region these vessels were created, form and glaze are very close to that of vessels produced in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. This is the smallest example of the group. H4 3/4" W5 1/2"
Condition
No restoration. Handle is broken away. Some minor surface ware consistent with age. Overall good condition ware consistent with age.
