Description
Lot of 3 foundation cones of Sin-kashid of Uruk, c. 1865 - 1833 BC, each with an inscription dedicating his palace. The cones each bear the same inscription in Sumerian cuneiform which reads: Sin-kashid, mighty man, king of Uruk, king of Amnanum, provider of the Eanna Temple, when he built the Eanna, built his royal palace. Ref: Sin-kashid RIME 4.4.1.4. The Amnanum were a tribe of West Semitic Amorite-speaking nomads who had come into southern Mesopotamia several centuries earlier. 'Eanna' means 'Temple of the god An,' the chief god of Sumer. The cones were intended for foundation deposits, and were immured within the walls of the royal palace or temple in great numbers. Largest H: 2 ¼ in (5.7cm). Ex collection of Addis Finney, a chemical engineer from Akron, OH, whose professional career was based in Basil, Switzerland from 1935-1965.
