Description
A Near Eastern bronze Master of Animals finial, c. 1000 - 800 BC, the central portion set into a tubular base. The finial consists of three central heads, the uppermost clearly an animal head, separated by ridges along the central tube, two curving neck and heads of griffins, each with two bird headed projection on bottom, to either side, a central eye below and feline legs beneath that. H: 15 1/8 in (38.5cm). The finial is well-preserved with a deep olive green patina and light deposits. Bedford, England private collection.
