Description
Anatolia, present-day Turkey, ca. 2800 to 2200 BCE. This is a group of three greyish marble kilia heads. The classic pointed chin feature remains on each. Kilia are highly stylized female figures made throughout the Mediterranean during the Chalcolithic and Early Bronze Age. They are characterized by bulbous heads, long necks, and flat bodies with wide, flipper-like arms. When first made, the faces would have had painted details like eyes. Includes custom stands for each. Size: They are roughly similar; the largest is 1" in length, 1 1/4" in width, and 1 1/4" at tallest point. With stands, the tallest is 2" in height.
Provenance: Ex-private New York, New York collection; ex-private Wagner collection, Cape Cod, MA, acquired in 1960's.

Condition
Fragmentary, only parts of the faces remain. All facial features are worn smooth, but the chins remain on each. Backs are chipped on each. The smallest of the three has some caked dirt.
