Description
Hellenistic, Magna Graecia, 300 to 200 BCE. This is a terracotta seated figure of a woman with some remaining painted decoration in white and black, particularly on the sides. The woman is seated in a decorated chair and her features and headdress are visible. In Hellenistic Greece, terracotta figurines took on new meaning; rather than being used for religious purposes as they were in previous times, they began to be used more frequently for funerary or decorative purposes. New molding techniques made it possible to create finely detailed miniature statues. Size: 4 1/2" tall, 2 1/2" deep, and 2 1/2" wide.
