Description
Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Aztec, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. This cylindrical ceramic seal stamp (sometimes called sellos) has geometric and floral designs. Cylindrical seal stamps are found throughout pre-Columbian Mexico, and may have been used to apply consistent ritual body paint for religious ceremonies. Size: 2" x 2" x 4".

Provenance: Ex-private Mcdonald collection, Houston TX, acquired at local gallery or at auction between 1982 and 1994.

Condition
Intact with wear to one end but very clear decoration. Appears to have been cracked in half at some point and repaired, but repair is very small and only visible upon close inspection.
