Original half-leather binding with dark maroon leather spine and black cloth boards with darkened maroon leather corners. Vol. 2 features double folio plates of uniform, arms, artillery, wagons, and transportation drawings including trains, wagons, and paddlewheelers. 158 total maps, 14 total plates (172 illustrations). Condition: Spine is missing on Vol. #1, as is top of spine on Vol. #2. Covers are worn, chipped and starting, with the binding firm. Interior is exceptionally clean with very little foxing or spotting and no tears. Vol. 1 - Plates IV, V, XXVI, XXVIII & XLIV are lacking. (No evidence of plate remnants, so it is possible that this is a binding error). Vol. 2 - No title page, possibly as issued.
