Anna Vaughn Hyatt Huntington (American, 1876 - 1973) bronze of a stetching and yawning tiger or panther (also known as Tiger Yawning). Patinated surface marked on lower edge #278 Gorham Co. Founders O or Q 492. Mounted on a rectangular black marble base. Length of sculpture 13", length of base 15 1/2". Circa 1920s. Biography (courtesy of the National Park Service) - Anna Hyatt Huntington, a premier American sculptress, was born Anna Vaughn Hyatt in 1876, and studied with Mount Rushmore sculptor Gutzon Borglum. Her first one-person show was held when she was 24 years old. A prolific artist, she was especially noted for her powerfully classic animal and equestrian sculpture. Approximately 200 American museums contain her work, including the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
Condition
Sculpture patinated surface in excellent condition, marble base has minor nicks to corners.
