Description
A pair of small Chinese chamfrons made of gilt and engraved bronze, Han Dynasty, 2nd to 1st century B.C.A pair of chamfrons for chariot horses. Bronze with brownish-green patina, traces of fire gilding on the obverse. Slightly conically tapering plates finely engraved with scrolling foliage, the centre decorated with a small striding tiger or panther. Both forehead protectors with two lugs on the reverse. Each mounted on a modern plexiglass stand. One chamfron with central crack. Dimension of plates 27 x 8.5 cm. Height on stand 31 cm.Provenance: The Eliane and Guy de la Boisselière Collection.
