Description
Pre-Columbian, Southeastern, Mexico, Vera Cruz, ca. 400 to 600 CE. A truly wonderful terracotta standing figure, legs akimbo, arms outstretched holding a short axe in his right hand. What truly sets this one apart is his elaborate regalia. He wears a fantastic headdress highlighted in red and black pigment (bitumen) and wears numerous sashes and cords - face again decorated in deep black bitumen. Size: 9"H.
Provenance: Ex-private M. Poolos/Adeon Gallery collection, acquired in the 1950's to 1960's
