Description
Southeast Asia, Thailand, ca. 17th to 18th century. A very rare and fabulous ivory Buddha made of carved ivory covered in red lacquer with gilded highlights. Note: this ivory predates the US ban on ivory by 200 + years and is legal to buy and sell. Buddha sits upon a silk throne with hands in Varamudra position, flame atop his head. 5-1/2"H with throne, 4-3/4"H without.
Provenance: Ex-private Palm Beach, Florida collection, acquired between 1980 and 1990.
