JEWISH WAR VETERANS OF THE UNITED STATES FLAG
Heavily embroidered blue rayon banner owned and displayed by Post No. 488 of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States, the lodge located in Huntington, New York. The 62" x 42" flag, fringed with gold tassels, bears a Star of David with an eagle within, all encircled by a wreath of leaves with red berries. The flag, made by Strauss & Sons, New York, is secured to the original horizontal wood and brass suspension pole. Very good. Approximately 550,000 Jewish soldiers fought in the US Armed Forces during World War II. They served on all fronts in Europe and in the Pacific. Some 10,000 were killed in combat, and more than 36,000 received citations. Many Jewish soldiers took part in liberating the camps.
