Catalogue Note: Antoine "Anthony" Gabriel Quervelle (1789-1856) emigrated from France in 1817 and settled in Philadelphia, bringing with him the influences of French Empire taste in design. His highly ornamented and stylized furniture forms were quite popular in his day, and he was even commissioned to create several pieces for the White House in 1829. Examples of his work reside in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Winterthur, among others.

(UPDATED 6/16/15) Very good condition overall with minor areas of wear, small loss to carved leaf tip and crack to base on standard.
