VIRGINIA MANUFACTORY SECOND MODEL FLINTLOCK MUSKET, smooth bore, with walnut stock, lockplate stamped "RICHMOND" and "1819" to tail and "VIRGINIA" over script "Manufactory" between cock and frizzen spring; the flat cock/hammer with beveled edges, brass flashpan, straight frizzen, and barrel band spring to the fore of the bands are all indicators consistent with an example from the stamped date. With original ramrod. Trigger guard stamped "11," sideplate and buttplate stamped "33." Virginia Manufactory, Richmond, Virginia. Stamped 1819. 57 1/4" L, barrel 42" L.

Provenance: From a Shenandoah Valley of Virginia private collection.
Catalogue Note: Due to the shortage of percussion small arms at the onset of the Civil War, the bulk of Stonewall Jackson's divisions were armed with flintlocks at the start of the Valley Campaign, including many from the Virginia Manufactory arsenal.

Very good condition overall, lock in working condition; expected brown color to metal surfaces, walnut with nice dark amber color; frizzen spring professionally replaced, but with likely original screw; expected pitting to barrel around flashpan; some minimal losses and scars to stock; fore finial of trigger guard very slightly displaced, and minor loss to stock around said finial; middle barrel band slightly loose, and fore of stock very slightly warped, barely noticeable, with associated warping to ramrod. Butt appears cracked, but this is in fact due to a knot in the wood grain, and is structurally sound.
