Enamel dial with black Roman and Arabic numerals and Chemin-de-Fer chapter ring; signed ‘V.or PAILLARD / ET de Bronzes / Paris’; movement signed ‘V.or PAILLARD A PARIS’ and numbered ‘1678’
Wind-up key, brass pendulum

Fine French mantel clock in the Rococo style of fine quality.

Condition:
The clock is in very good condition, showing some minor scratches to the case. During a short-term test, the clock was fully functional, but long-term functionality cannot be guaranteed. The case of the clock is circa 42 x 30 x 15 cm in size.
Victor Paillard (1805-1886)
The fondeur Victor Paillard designed and made various bronze decorative and functional objects including lighting and clocks. He also cast bronzes for some of the most important sculptors of the day, including Barye, Carrier-Belleuse and Pradier. He opened his first workshop in the 1830's in Paris, and by the 1850's was employing around 100 people. His success at numerous international exhibitions, including the 1851 Great Exhibition, further enhanced his reputation. (cko)
