A-009 Uniform lot of Luftwaffe Lt. General Josef Schmid. A recipient of the Knight's Cross, Schmid became Commander of all Hermann Goring and Afrika Korps Panzer units following Rommel's Departure. Group includes: (1) Blue-gray quality doeskin, 4-pocket tunic. Ribbed gold buttons. Gold bullion flying breast eagle/swastika. High relief gold bullion embroidered wreath and two "gulls" on white collar tabs with twisted gold wire piping. Gold twisted wire piped collar. Interwoven gold and silver bullion cords, with one large silver "pip", on white shoulder boards. Thread loops for four badges and a 5" ribbon bar. Outline visible above the left cuff where a cuff title was removed. Black silk lining with white striped sleeve linings. "Split" under left lower pocket flap, to accommodate a dagger hanger. Silk strap with snap sewn into liner. Tailor's label "Petersen & Co - Munchen". Name label in pocket reads "Generalmajor J. Schmid - Nr. 214 den VI. 1943". (2) General's breeches. Blue-gray doeskin material with a narrow striped between two 1 3/4" white stripes down sides. Custom blued waist and fly buttons. Lace-up bottoms. 36" waist. Very good plus condition. (3) Luftwaffe General's rain cape. Waterproof blue cloth faced rubber- type lining with a four button front. Clasp consisting of two gilt high relief, well detailed, eagle roundels connected with a 4" gilt chain. Very good condition. (4) "Soldbuch". Inside cover has a 3 1/4" x 2 1/2" photo of Generalmajor Schmid wearing his Knight's Cross, an ink signature and 2 "General command..." ink stampings. The latest recorded rank is Generalleutnant. His assignments to the HG Division and General command are also shown, as well as his awards - including the Knight's Cross. A rare document. It is interesting to note that while known for his military career, Josef Schmid was an early supporter of the Nazi Party, took part in the 9 November 1923 "Putsch" and was the recipient of a Blood Order member.
