Item Details
Description
An old-rose silk robe à la Française, 1770s, the bodice with diagonal openings, the side slits, pleated silk cuffs and edges trimmed with pleated bands of matching silk edged in beige fly braid, and two panels of matching fabric, probably taken from the missing petticoat, one edged with fly braid (3)
Condition
Lacking one cuff. 1cm hole in hem edge. The pocket slits are placed immediately below the waist which suggests it has been shortened. The 2 bodice side seams are neatly over-stitched which looks 19th century. Underarms – fabric slightly let out and small godet inserted under right underarm. Very clean, fresh appearance. There is a metal loop at the hem edge missing.
