The French artist Alex de Andreis is primarily famous for his costume scenes following the tradition of the 17th and 18th century. He created genre scenes with elegantly dressed men and members of the army, presented in pubs or in palatial interiors. The present scene is therefore a typical example of his artistic output and shows a young gentleman while being registered to the army. The artist has painted the figures with great artistic skills and particular impact on the materiality and details of the costumes.
