Juan Patricio Morlete y Ruiz (1715-c.1780)
Juan Patricio Morlete y Ruiz was born in 1715 in San Miguel el Grande in Guanajuato and is of Spanish-Indian descent. He moved to Mexico City in 1729, where he was educated by José de Ibarra. Morlete y Ruiz painted mainly religious subjects, but also portraits. He soon became one of the most important artists of his generation. (cko)
