The ‘Sforzesca’ sofa as a homage to the ‘Sanluca’ armchair by the Castiglioni brothers
Estimate by Auctionata Expert: 9.000 Euro

Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni designed the ‘Sanluca’ armchair in 1959. In their design of the armchair they sacrificed the traditional shape of an armchair in favor of new form experiments. The back is twice curved and perfectly aligns to the shape of the body. Sides and armrests are curved alike. The model was resumed by Gavina, the furniture manufacturing company by Dino Gavina in 1987 as a sofa built of three armchairs.

Condition:

There are traces of use. The total dimensions of the three-seat sofa are 104 x 210 x 90 cm (height x width x depth).

Gavina

The Italian company was founded by the designer Dino Gavina (1922-2007) to manufacture the work of designers from the burgeoning Italian design scene of the 1950s and 1960s. Gavina was one of the first to produce furniture for important designers of modernism, such as the Castiglioni brothers, Carlo and Tobia Scarpa, Cini Boeri, Roberto Sebastian Matta, Vico Magistretti and Mario Bellini. The company was acquired by Knoll in 1968, who continued producing the designs from members of the Gavina group during the next decade. (tm)
