The ‘Garden Chair’ grows out of the floor like a tree with fruits. At first appearance it is not a very comfortable furniture but one sits very well once you climbed up. Peter Opsvik wanted to revolutionize the common way of sitting and designed the ‘Garden Chair’ as an extraordinary as well as ergonomic seating sculpture.
Condition:
The high chair is in very good condition with slight traces of use. It is 175 cm in height and the foot is 90 cm in diameter.
Peter Opsvik (b. 1939)
Peter Opsvik, a native of Stranda, began his artistic education at the age of 20 at the Bergens Kunsthåndverksskole. In 1964, he graduated with a diploma from the Statens Håndverks- og Kunstindustrieskole (SHKS) in Oslo. Opsvik began studying again at the Folkwangschule of Design in Essen in the ergonomics class of Ulrich Burandt. Before becoming a self-employed designer, Opsvik worked for the Tandberg Radiofabrik as an industrial designer. Afterwards, he founded the Peter Opsvik AS Studio in Oslo. As part of his ergonomic seating furniture he designed the children’s’ high chair Tripp Trapp and the Balans chair series with tilt forward seat where the knees are supported by cushions. (tm)
