Description
A nice Pre-Columbian stone canopa, c. AD 1300 - 1500, carved from an attractive tan and black stone in the form of a llama or alpaca, the ears, eyes, mouth and tail indicated and the back hollowed out to hold typically a cocoa leaf and animal fat offering for a bountiful harvest. 2 3/8 in x 3 in (6 x 7.6 cm). Old repair at neck, deposits throughout. Ex Mike Barron; Ex Indiana private collection.
