Description
Silver Torah Shield TAS, Warsaw, Poland, 1876, Judaica.
The shield's border is chased with flowerheads and scroll foliage ornaments.
With typical applied symbols including - two ramping lions flanking a Torah crown on top of two embossed pillars.
The hinged (on the reverse) plaque box includes a double sided plaque with the Hebrew inscription - Sabbath - on one side and - Passover - on the other (later replacement).
The center of the shield is applied with two hinged pierced doors that open to reveal a miniature Torah scroll model.
One dangling pendant engraved in Hebrew - Levi - and marked with English Hallmarks for London, dated 1919, maker's mark for Jacob Rosenzweig (of Rosenzweig, Taitelabum and Co).
Connected with a hanging chain.
Marked with Polish silver marks for Moscow, dated 1876, assayer mark for Josef Sosnkowski, maker's mark - A.R (cyrillic).
