Description
Maynard Arms Co First Model Rifle, Civil War era, circa 1860. The rifle is a .50 caliber percussion cap rifle, serial no: 2747, with a 26” barrel. The tape primer system is intact and contains a tape roll. The rifle is clearly marked in two lines on the lower right side of the frame: MAYNARD ARMS CO. / WASHINGTON. It is additionally marked on the lower left side of the frame in three lines: MANUFACTURED BY / MASS. ARMS CO. / CHICOPEE FALLS. The patchbox door is marked in four lines: MAYNARD PATENTEE / SEP 22 1845 / MAY 27 1851 / JUNE 17 1856. The inside of the tape primer door is marked 2747.
Condition
Some rust and pitting on one side of the firearm.
