Description
During the early stages of development of the Apollo spacesuit, International Latex created a two unit suit mockup that featured an intersuit for mobility and pressure protection and an outer garment for micro-meteriod protection and thermal balance. This lot consists of the helmet from that prototype suit. ALSO included in this lot are three official NASA photographs of the prototype Apollo suit, showing this helmet (photograph #'s 63-APOLLO-104, 66-H-409 and one unnumbered, 1963-1966). From the descriptions on the reverse of the photographs, it appears that this prototype suit and helmet were used in training and testing from 1963 through at least April 1966. The helmet appears complete and intact, including the flipdown visor, the interior earpads and protective "bump" pads, although the helmet does show signs of wear from use and portions of the flexible rubber above the neck ring and some of the insulation on the wiring have perished from age. The identification plate on the back of the helmet reads: "Model No. 143-10, Serial 003"; in addition, there is a somewhat unintelligible handwritten number below the identification plate: "NASA-94100-68" (?). Here is your chance to acquire a very early artifact from the Apollo program. Extremely rare.
