S-012 Lot from the estate of Lt. William Wolber, a bombardier with the U.S. 8th AF, 466th Bomb Squadron. He flew 34 combat mission including support of the Normandy landing. Included are: (1) Distinguished Flying Cross-unnamed, cased. With ribbon bar and lapel devices. (2) Air Medal, unnamed with original presentation case. Also with ribbon bar and two lapel bars. (3) Bombardier Wings. Clutchback marked "STERLING" and "A.E.CO. UTICA NY". (4) American Defense Medal. (5) Victory Medal with bar. (6) Air Crew Proficiency Badge - marked "STERLING" and a 3-ribbon bar with Battle Stars and palm leaves. (7) Two 8th AF shoulder patches and a photo of Wolber's B-25. (8) Piece of German shrapnel that pierced Wolber's aircraft and landed in his jacket, during a bombing run on June 6, 1944 while supporting the Normandy landings. (9) US WWII "rough sand" finish steel helmet. Fixed bale with a front seam, "sewn-in" web chinstrap (named to "WOLBER") and interlocking buckle. 4" x 1" painted white band on rear of the plastic liner. (10) Helmet as above - shows some wear. Cloth straps of the liner are named to "WOLBER". Paratrooper-type "split" chinstrap pinned to lining.
