S-010 U.S. WWI lot: (1) Officers o'seas cap with both a sew-on felt cloth "YMCA" insignia and an enameled metal badge. Leather sweatband and silk lining. (2) Group of 20 letters/envelopes written home by Sergt. Thomas A. Gotto, an Air Service mechanic, to his sister. Content includes a baseball tournament, "Bosch planes" overhead at night, big guns at the front, being allowed to wear the French Air Service Mechanics insignia (photo postcard with this letter), "I...saw President Wilson", etc. (3) A photo album with 74 photos including Sergt. Gotto, comrades, views of Paris during Wilson's visit, Versailles - with friends, Saint Cry, French allies, holding up German aircraft insignia, French bombers, fighter aircraft, etc. (4) A 3 1/4" x 31/2" section of fabric with a painted black Iron Cross on a white circle - pasted over a section of fabric which has a bullet hole. An accompanying letter dated "SEPT. 1, 1918" states that "The Cross is put over a hole in an airplane made by a Boshe bullet". (5) "Der Kaiser's Prayer" - a satirical poem and a German military driver's pass. II
