Description
Lebanon. Deals with grammar. The Part entitled “Gan Naul” includes elucidations on synonyms, ?????? ???? ????, and ????? ?????? ????? by the sage Naphtali Hertz Wiesel, with his signature, editing and changes in handwriting. Amsterdam 1765. First edition.[4] 101, [1]: 16, pg. 152. 22 c”m.With commendation by Rabbi Shaul of Amsterdam, author of “Binyan Ariel,” and his brother-in-law Rabbi Shaul HaLevi, Head or the Beit Din of The Hague. At this period the reforming ideas of Wiesel were not yet uncovered, and he was accepted by the rabbis. After the implications of his writings were exposed, they recanted their commendations of his books. In the upper corner of the title page is the author’s signature “Naphtali Hertz.” In the margins of most of the pages are corrections and changes in his handwriting. It seems that the abbreviated signature in Latin letters at the bottom of the pages, like a small scribble, is Wiesel’s signature, to note to himself, or to the printer, that he checked the page.Binding and first 2 pages are detached. Fine condition. Exceptionally rare.
