This lovely children's portrait is a typical family portrait of the Empire style, which spread in Europe under the influence of Napoleon Bonaparte since the last decade of the 18th Century

The present children’s portrait with a little dog is the work of an artist active in Germany at the beginning of the 19th century. The fine hairs, vivid flesh tones and expressive eyes are evidence of the portraitist’s great skill.
