Early Doug Jester (VA, 1876-1961), Tack Eye Canvasback
Chincoteague, Virginia, circa 1930, carved and painted wood, tack eyes.
Length 17 in.
Doug Jester carved simple yet very effective decoys. They all seem to have nostril and mandible carving which give them a wonderfully folksy look. Canvasbacks by him are rare. This early high head example was made from cedar.
