Description
Henry Harris (NC, 1876-1931), Published Black Bellied Plover, Calvin Gaskill Rig

Stacy, North Carolina, before 1900, carved and painted wood, published on page 53 of Shorebird Decoys of North Carolina by Kroghie Andresen and Philip Harvey.
Length 8.5 in.
This early hardwood Calvin Gaskill stand black bellied plover with splined in original oak bill came from the Julian Hamilton, Sr. collection. The body has a fat rounded appearance. The Hamilton family thought their two Calvin Gaskill rig decoys were the oldest in the stand. This plover has a hole in the tail similar to the dowitcher decoys made by Mitchell Fulcher. Calvin Gaskill was the son-in-law of Henry Harris and inherited the shorebird hunting rig.
Former collection of Julian Hamilton, Jr.
From the Personal Collection of Mr. Kroghie Andresen, Charlotte, North Carolina
