Amityville, New York, circa 1870s, carved and painted wood, branded J.C. Carter, published on page 110 of Gunnin' Birds by Kroghie Andresen.
Length 16 in.
One of the finest Swan Island Club decoys to surface as it is in rare original paint. James Coolidge Carter (1827-1905) was listed as a member when the club reorganized in 1883 until his death on February 14, 1905. Carter was a New York City attorney and founded the prestigious law firm Carter, Ledyard and Milburn in 1854.
