Description: Black lacquer ground decorated with gold, red and other pigments in hiramaki-e, slightly raised takamaki-e, aogai (inset mother-of-pearl), and raden (mother-of-pearl) panels with several birds in flight over a sea with roiling waves. Balance-form pen, white metal clip and lever. Signed (kanji unknown). Lever-filler. 135mm. #4 14K gold Platinum oval-vent nib, medium flex. Excellent condition, mild patina to clip and lever.

A delightful pen, combining several techniques of ornamentation to create a pleasing maritime scene, with the generous use of mother-of-pearl underscoring the aquatic motif.***********************
