The girl on the right in this portrait is identified as Marion Lenbach (1892-1947), one of Franz von Lenbach's two daughters from his first marriage to Magdalena née Countess Moltke. After von Lenbach's divorce from the Countess, it was decided that Marion would live with her father while her younger sister Erika would live with her mother. The identity of the other child in this drawing is not known. In 1911 Marion married Otto Basselet de la Rosee, Captain in the Lifeguards of Crown Prince Rupprecht of Bavaria. After his death, she married her second husband, Vice Admiral Heinrich Löhlein (German, 1871-1960), in 1919. Marion was one of von Lenbach's favorite models, and he frequently dressed her in period costumes and adorned her with elaborate props for his portraits.
