Item Details
Description
A tie-dye top and pants ensemble, owned and dyed by The Lovin' Spoonful founder, John Sebastian, and friend Caroline Carpinelli.
The short-sleeved tie-dye top (dyed by Carpinelli) features a purple and yellow crumple dye pattern, with a quarter button-down neckline, no size or label present, with holes and fraying present from age and use. The flared pants feature a yellow and orange striped tie-dye pattern, with a back zipper, labeled "Pleasure Dome Boutique Los Angeles," no size present.
The ensemble was dyed, c. late 1960s- early 1970s, at the 46-acre artistic community near Studio City called "The Farm." At The Farm, Sebastian was nicknamed "guitar fingers" due to his tight grip on his fabric (strength gained from playing the guitar) during the tie-dye process.
