Framed 1771 Bill of Lading Document, Joshua F. De St. Croix. The letter reads "SHIPPED by the Grace of GOD, in good Order and well-conditioned, by John Butler in and upon the good sloop called the Joshua F De St Croix whereof is Master, under God, for this present Voyage Joshua F De. St Croix and now riding at Anchor in the Harbour of N york and by God's grace bound for Newport Rhode Island To say, Sixty Six Barrels Flour on ...........(?) of said master shiper each half / Being marked and numbered as in the Margin, and are to be delivered in the like good Order and well-conditioned, at the aforesaid Port of Newport (the Danger of the Seas only accepted) unto said master or to his Assigns, he or they paying Freight for the said Goods as Customary with Primage and Avarage accustomed. In WITNESS whereof the Master or Purser of the said Sloop hath affirmed to this Bills of Lading, all of this Tenor and Date; the one of which Bills being accomplished, the other to stand void. And so God send the good Sloop to her desired port in Safety, Amen.
