Description
[SILK SUSPENSION CLOCK]. French “Zeus” Silk-Suspension Mantle Clock. [France, ca. 1800 (early First Empire)]. A stunning, French gilt bronze silk thread suspension mantle clock, the gilt case featuring a mounted bust of the Greek God of War, Zeus, an image often employed during the First Empire, showcasing the strength and power of France. Approximately 11 x 22 ½ x 5”. The bust has a dark brown patina. The body of the case has applied mounts and filigree moldings with ornate rococo feet. The silk thread suspension movement has a half hour bell strike. Overall condition is fine with minor occasional wear to the case, some light occasional tape residue (most likely easily removed); the beveled glass rear door is good. Untested.
